Marketing is marketing, right? So it should come as no surprise when everything in the world revolves around the launch of the last of the Harry Potter books, supposed last there must surely be something else to follow?

Somehow this one escaped me. A South African winning a stage in the biggest cycle race in the World is certainly something to take note of. Such happenings certainly do not happen on a daily basis or yearly for that matter. The world of cycling is very competitive and a victory such as this is an awesome featr.

When you hear of the death of someone it often leads to reflection on one's own life and with the learning of the sudden passing away of Bill Flynn it had me thinking of the times of my youth. The bygone days of life in South Africa.

Living in a Politically Correct world can be oh so boring and restrictive at times however there are occasions that one can be happy for all the things listed as taboo nowadays.
One such thing is smoking. Sadly despite all the beauty and wonder of a city like Copenhagen in Denmark, the one aspect that stood out for me was what a smoking city it was and how even restaurants didn't give a continental when it came to providing a safe haven for non smokers to eat.

Three more days to go and everyone is running around to bring closure and to finish well. I have been resting most of the last two days as the flu bug that is going around the last 3 weeks finally found out I am here too. The upside of that is that I saw Arran in it's full glory yesterday. In all the years I have been coming here I have never seen it so clear - it almost felt as if it was 10km closer.

Just over a week left of my 7 week period up in bonnie Scotland. I have a bit of mixed feelings about it - although it would be great to be at my home again, sleeping in my own good bed, I would greatly miss my 'room with a view' and all the lovely walks on the beach. I would miss the Isle of Arran that never seizes to entertain me with a different look every time I look out of the window - day or night! I would miss all the boats and ships sailing by - large and small. Some big cargo ships, loads o

Is it that there is a desire amongst certain groups of South Africans who do not want this Government to succeed?
I have to agree with the artcle re the perceptions of crime perhaps being worse than the reality. On my recent trip to the country, crime was not the top of agenda when it came to dicussions in pubs etc. In fact, we spent much more time discussing the performances of the recpective super 12 rugby teams, and how SA would fare in the cricket world cup and the terrible state of affairs in Zimbabwe.

After recently having read the report regarding crime and people's perception in South Africa and the actual reality. One wonders how you explain this to a bride who hours after getting married she has her husband die in her arms after being shot during a robbery attempt in their honeymoon suite.

A week ago I arrived in bonnie Scotland and was given a room with a beautiful view in this old and almost castle like building. I am on the top floor which gives me a great view of the Isle of Arran. The most amazing thing is that there is a different picture painted every day, and I am a bit embarrased to say that I must have taken about 12 photo's out of the same window in the seven days I am here. A few days ago the sun was behind a darkish cloud and there were those silver beams going into sea - I stood there for quite a lo
