Cop Hawks investigate SARS spy scandal

Acting Head of the Hawks, Major General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, has urged the media and all interested parties to allow the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations to conduct thorough investigations without any interference, regarding the SARS spy scandal.

“We need time to assess the case and involve other relevant stakeholders to successfully investigate the issue at hand. In doing so, we need not divulge sensitive information to the media for fear of jeopardising the case,” said Ntlemeza.

On Tuesday, the Directorate for Priority Crime, the Hawks, confirmed that it has received affidavits from two individuals who are implicated in the South African Revenue Services (SARS) spying scandal, which was widely reported on weekend newspapers.

“A docket has also been opened and the investigations into the matter are underway,” said the Hawks.

The Hawks said it will make no further comments on the matter until such time that progress which might be of public knowledge is attained. -
