Citizenship debacle

I find it strange that the governemnt of S.A. wants us to come back, but at the same time, has this silly little law about losing citizenship if someone dares applies for another country's. My wife is American and we had 2 children here in the U.S. So i applied for U.S. citizenship without realizing that I was contravening the S.A. citizenship law. Anyway, any advice on what to do now ?

When did you appply for US citizenship? The procedure differs depending on when you applied.

Any former citizen by birth or descent who:

• Gave up his or her South African citizenship, or
• Automatically ceased to be a South African citizen;

can apply for the reinstatement of his/her South African citizenship. However this person must return permanently to South Africa.

So all is not lost
