Southern Africa Travel Visas

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TRAVELLERS TO SOUTH AFRICA

Please note that with immediate effect, anyone travelling to South Africa must have two consecutive blank pages in their passport which lie side by side when the passport is open (i.e. a left and a right hand page).

Passports must also be valid for at least six months after the date of travel. Passengers travelling to South Africa with passports which do not comply with these requirements, will either be stopped from boarding the aircraft or risk deportation upon arrival in South Africa. In addition, a parent travelling with children, WITHOUT the other parent, will need a letter of consent from the absent parent. The police must certify the letter of consent.

Whilst every effort has been made to ensure that the information pertaining to visas is up to date, it still your responsibility to check on visa requirements, based on the nationality of your passport. Visa requirements can change with little or no notice.

The following information is a guideline only.

There are certain nationalities that require visas for the following countries: BOTSWANA

Certain nationalities require visas for Botswana. Please note that these visas take approximately 14 – 30 working days to issue depending on the nationality. KENYA

Certain nationalities require visas for Kenya. Kenyan High Commission: Tel +27 12 3622249/50/51 Fax +27 12 3622252 Yellow Fever certificates are required, in addition to the visa requirements. Travellers are also advised to be immunized against cholera although it is not a requirement. Travellers are advised to take Anti-Malaria pills 2 weeks before entering Kenya and to continue with the dosage while in the country and 2 weeks after departure.

LESOTHO

Certain nationalities require visas, departure permits and / or re-entry permits into South Africa. MALAWI

Certain nationalities require visas for Malawi. Please apply for these visas well in advance.

MOZAMBIQUE

The Mozambican government has advised that all persons travelling to the country are to obtain visas prior to their departure, as certain entry visas will not be issued upon arrival at any border post or airport.

South Africans and Mozambicans travelling between the two neighbouring countries no longer require an entry visa as from Monday April 18, 2005.

 

NAMIBIA

SWAZILAND

Certain nationalities require visas, departure permits and / or re-entry permits into South Africa. Swaziland Consulate: Tel +27 11 4032050/36 Fax +27 11 4037473 TANZANIA (including ZANZIBAR)

All nationalities require visas for Tanzania these need to be applied for in advance. Please note that anyone holding an Israeli passport will require a minimum of one week to process their visa.

For those returning to Tanzania, border officials often allow re-entry with the single entry visa used on the northbound trip as long as they are told about this on the first entry to Tanzania.

ZAMBIA

All foreign passport holders with the exception of most citizens of Commonwealth member countries, have to obtain a visa for Zambia. However, visa waivers are available, and we will be able to assist with these arrangements.

Certain nationalities require visas for Zimbabwe. These must be applied for in advance although they are starting to issue visas at the border. Check with the embassy when enquiring. Botswana Visa Requirements in Detail

Tourists are welcome to visit Botswana for up to 90 days a year. Nationals from countries not listed please check with your local travel agent or contact Botswana Tourism Department at ++267 395 3024.

Nationals from the following countries do not need visas: Antigua, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgiu, Belize, Brunei, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominica, Fiji, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Guyana, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaw, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Portugal, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Spain, Swaziland Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, USA, Uganda, Uruguay, Yugoslavia, Zambia.

Other nationalities require visas for Botswana. Please note that these visas take approximately 14 – 30 working days to issue depending on the nationality.

 

Zambian Visa Requirements in Detail

Passport holders from the following countries do not require visas:

Passport holders from the following countries DO require visas on a reciprocal basis:

Bangladesh; Gambia; Ghana; India; Nigeria; Sri Lanka; Sierra Leone; Pakistan; Papa New Guinea.

Passport holders from the following countries DO require a visa and may obtain them at the port of entry or missions abroad:

Angola; Britain; Burundi; Comoros; Congo Democratic Republic; Djibouti; Egypt; Eritrea; Ethiopia; Madagascar; Mozambique; New Zealand; Rwanda; Somalia; Sudan.

American tourists and business travellers shall be issued with multiple entry visas valid for three years at a fee of US$40 per person at missions abroad or ports of entry.

Any private and / or business visitors wishing to visit neighboring countries shall be issued with re-entry visas valid for 7 days on request at internal immigration offices or at border posts before departure from Zambia.

The holders of the following passports do require a visa and need to obtain the visa from a Zambian embassy before entering and cannot obtain one from the border post like other travelers: Swedish; Finnish; Norway – Gratis Danish – to pay

Day-tripper – Just coming in from Zimbabwe to view the falls, buy curios or raft: US$10.00

A multiple entry visa is ONLY available through immigration in Harare – NOT through any Zimbabwe Embassies out of the country.
