having a baby and benefits? - Spacegirl - 18-02-2004 I am sure I read somewhere that the govt has decided to give new moms some sort of once off grant of around £500.... but for the life of me I cannot seem to find it.... does anyone know what I am talking about? I had worked for him for 5 years etc....he should have paid me maternity leave but refused. By law he should have found work for me to do... I worked with learning disabled young adults and really when pregnant, it's not the best job to do. anyway, I was forced to resign and therefore had no income. Due to my partner working, I was not entitled to any benefit. But Iwas the maternity thingie. It's worth looking into. You will need your pregnancy certificate but I would photo copy it as they do have a tendency to lose them!
