The Future

I know you ppl might think this a morbid subject, but have been wanting to ask this in a long while....

Should my hubby pass away here on Mud isle, what steps do i need to take first and how do i go about it??

Have asked hubby to tell me these things, he has given me his version....

but what would u do??

would u go back to SA?
we have a pension and life insurance separate from the Company so hubby can move on to other jobs taking the insurance with him, they would pay me four times his annual salary plus other things...
i would not be able to afford to stay here without working, so what would be your option??

also who do u notify first of his death?
how do u make sure u got bucks to live on without borrowing ?
we have a joint account, would that be frozen? (hope not)

all these things really bother me?????

How were you married? With Ante-nuptial contract? Or in Community of property?
As far as I remember from my banking days, if you were married in COP, all your joint accounts are frozen on the death of your spouse, and you work from there.
I'm really not too sure, but I am sure your bankers in SA would be able to tell you.

Like you, if anything should happen, we would have to return to SA, as the pensions, although sizeable in SA would never cover our living expenses here!

You've actually brought up a very interesting thought, cubbie - worthwhile for all wives/partners to consider.

Dudette, we were married with an anti-nuptial contract, but would that stand here in the UK??

I said to hubby he must get a little black book and write down from step 1 - step 2...so i can follow it correctly.....as i know there are so many dishonest ppl out there too willing to take your bucks and help u professionally while charging u a fortune dealing with the estate etc....as to getting an executor, we had one but he is now residing in Australia, so will have to change it, do i trust these banks or lawyers to become our executors, will they give me good advice on how to handle my money and invest it well for me????

I discussed this with my other half the other night...

I would go home to SA and spend some time with my folks to clear my head, but ultimately, I would stay here, I would not be able to afford to go home....

She would probably go home to Aus to be with her family.

As far as joint bank accounts etc are concerned....we haven't really spoken about it...

I would hate to look at others to help me to bury my husband so i want to know these things now......

As i know with shock u can get up to strange things, that is why with my Mother we were all with her doing the business side of things, took her to the funeral home, did the insurance side of things and generally made sure she had money to live on.

Who would do that for me here???

And also to tide me over until i decide what to do with the future....

Cubbie one of the most important things to specify is who gets custody of your child in the event that you and your hubby unfortunately die together
