The Euro-zone expanding

Slovenia has now fulfilled all the main requirements to be permitted the switch ( from their current , awkward "Tollars" ) to Euro ;
this change should happen on 1st January 2007 !
( Another nice place to visit , MCamp...!)

So in other words go invest there now in property as history has shown that the Euro raises prices all over and is not a true reflection of the country's economy?

Will France and Germany still be creating the financial mess that besets the Euro-zone nations?

My prediction is that the poor in Slovenia will become even more poorer with this introduction.

Your view of Euro-Integrations , as valid as anyone-else's

is a serious Problem , with a capital "P" !
Where I live , the Prime Minister , Guy Verhoefstadt ( Belgique/Belgie/Belgien , that is ! ) is full-guns-blazing-ahaed , at every given chance , about the urgency of the perceived need : to change the current EU-community , into the United States of Europe , by copying the U.S. federal arrangements , whilst retaining ( he claims! ) European socialism , as is now inherent to our societies here...He is , besides the "les Belges" , also fully supported by Luxembourg , and France , maybe just as much by Germany and who knows , who else ?
The new members ( 10-ish of them , paupers-almost-all!!! , plus Roumania , Bulgaria , Croatia , maybe even Turkey still , + Macedonia is next on the list ) are most naive , in expecting to only just receive maximum benefits from Bruxelles ForEver ; on the other hand , with their sadly-lacking infrastuctures and
( absence of )legal histories , would you really go invest and/or settle there ?
So , some locals therein , who are owners of some assets might/will gain ...and the others will become poorer still , relatively = in comparison to us up here , who have already been established in "1st world" , for any length of anytime that counts...
That's my briefest , honest opinion , for the 5p that won't help anybody..

P.S. on Slovenia

It really can be quite nice there :
the Capital , Ljubljana is quite small , walkable , safe and civilised ;
- Koper is the key place on the coast , as would be Portorozh ; they have some 30-odd km of Adriatic coastline , between Triest , Italy and Umag , Croatia : some quite ruined and a little of it left : Not! ,
- then they have the unique "Krash" , dry Dolomite-type mountains alongside Italo-border ( don't miss out on air-dried meat !!!), plus they have some peaceful and pictoresque pastoral countryside leading onto Croatia , and also the stunning Alps , mountains and fab lakes ( Bled , Bohinj ) towards Austrian border ;
- did you know that much of southern Austria ( Styria e.g. , Graz , Leibnitz etc ) is populated by many Slovenes and Croats and/or their progeny , anycase ? Or about Postojna Caves ?

Yes ( but : the work wouldn't usually take me ...

...to any such places ! )
About Slovenia I happen to know quite a bit , and so I do : about a few other ex-Yugoslavia places - if anyone needs help/info...:don't hesitate to ask!
My usual work is with expats from all nations , and I used to be based in Dubai and "trip" into Hong Kong , Jo'burg , Cyprus , Israel...but nowadays it is mostly in north-western Europe.
And you ?

I've never been to Suomi ...

...but , for over 10 years' now , Finns are among my most loyal , valued and important Clients ( irrespective of their language , which I understand is related to Magyars and maybe Mongolians ? but , we do it all , in English and French , anyway , here );
I suppose their severe tax regime plus the recent changes to Finland's pensions' system have all contributed to made them : amongst the most literate , awake and aware and self-responsible financially , although the Swedes are much in the same league , as would the Brits be , the Swiss etc...
specifically : the Finns I deal with are mainly in "forest industry" ( paper , pulp , board ) , telecommunications , steel , travel , politics , lobbying , self-employed , journo's , artists etc ;
come to think of : would be nice to visit Finland in the summer , maybe in combination with St.Petersburg and/or Estonia , experience the White Nights and Karelia ...let's hope the life'll afford me the time , health & cash , for this , too ( and : not too far in the future , either )!!!
Do you ever come "down" to Belgium/Luxembourg/N.France/England ?
