It does not help if you earn in pounds...

Trevor Manuel must be doing something very right, the economy seems to be booming in SA.

Do not forget Tito Mboweni either.

Any chance we can order a quick collapse before I arrive there in March? Can recover later in the month.

Sad

SA is booming : As I said before ( to the non - believers) - if you snooze you loose ... had dinner with a friend last night.

He has a work force of 5 000 people.

His construction company if fully booked for the year and he could pick and choose what contracts he wanted !

I was at the panelbeaters yesterday. 3 Day job on my car - the earliest they can fit me is 20 Feb ! That is after visiting 5 outlets.

Want a service at Toyota - 2 Feb earliest. They have just doubled their service area and a new agent just opened. just not enough.

Wanted to buy myself a brand new toy. Cost is $100k ... " sorry mineer 5 months waiting list. In the previous 10 years we sold 250 of these cars. We now have a waiting list of 45 !
"
The house prices has definately "calmed down" so it is a buyers mark right now - but who knows for how long ?

It is my 2nd visit to SA in 2 months and I am absolutely amazed about the economy and how a lot of people has benefitted out of it.

The strong rand of course has a lot of negativities - I personally loose a lot of money every month - hey but I also have a bond to repay - the lowest rate ever in the history of the country and guess what - rumour has it the rate will drop soon another 1 percent !

Not many countries can be called a "third world country" and is "crime ridden" but can boast of having the best performance currency.

Cheers from the ever - patriotic Saffer

We used ( and I stress the used!!) to have sufficient cash in SA, but now we will start using sterling and the exchange rate is quite sad for us at the moment

:
Get your car beaten up north and serviced with the new agent down south?

Good to see you're still pro SA.. albeit they're slow in reciprocating

Booming ?

Heady , heady Enthusiasm , about a situation which is not neccessarily the recipe for the best outcome and can very easily be misleading !

I lived in S.A. through some v.v. good AND some v.v. bad times ;
in my , humble but experienced , view :
there's Nothing as Good , in any normal country ,
as a serious cyclical Reccession :
to sort out the wheat from the chuff ,
and kill-off the excesses of such "Booms" ,
sober-up people about the Pricing of their stuff and themselves ,
and throw some good Bargains at us again ,
slow-down the Inflation (Cancer) ,
and give us the Choices and the Customer Service we deserve ,
remind some that Life is not only about "Spending It"
( as in : Blowing the Easy-Come , Easy-Go dosh )
and make us enjoy and thrive in the beautiful stability that comes with somber-er times...
Then , after cold and dark winter , some healthy-er growth can/should follow , in the spring...
