SA banking accounts?

I read that if one has a banking account in SA, you must prove that it is yours by showing your id, a utility bill from your current home etc. before the end of June, otherwise the account(s) will be frozen.
Does anyone know more about this and how does one overcome the problem of being physically there?

Thanks

Hi Joan,

it's definately true...

Have a look here for details:
www.askharry.co.za

I know of some people that have been able to get around the 'appearing in person' stipulation... call your bank in SA and check with them.

Agreed SA, received a mail from someone in Switzerland yesterday and she had contacted ABSA and they did confirm it as correct.

Spoke to mom and she said she was advised that our accounts would be frozen until we could head home to verify our existence in person.

Now, what passport should I wear?

Hmmm.... the sexy litte red number or the conservative blue?

Oi! It was four years of blood sweat and tears to get that little book!

Now, I would like to thank my great-grandfather for being too shifty to renounce his Iti citizenship and become an honest South African burgher...
