Sue Johnson to share cancer experience
#88
Evening from Monteseel

Thank you fellow marathon runners for all the on going support. It 's like having many many seconders along the route. :chorus:

Had a busy week with three groups of people on site over two days. I made plans so that I would only be on site for half a day each day, and the mornings I worked from home catching up on the planning for our other events. One lady from the USA could not believe that having chemo on Friday, I could be on site Wednesday. Her father had gone through chemo and she said there was no way he could work and so I think God is really supporting me and my need to keep active. He knows I have a triple A personality, that I must be THE worst patient in the world and I reckon he just let's me get on with it. I know when it's time to sit down and I made sure I was not picking up any of the little ones. I also wrapped up really well as Durban was experiencing a cold front.

I do know rest is part of the process and I know when I need to rest because the body just gives up, but for me personally, my work and my passion for what I do is part of my process of getting my mind, body and soul well again. Jen, I am sure there were things that you did that kept you going forward towards good health despite the difficult days.. :cloud9:

If I had to rest up all day it would drive me crackers but the chemo is very clever, when it's doing it's stuff and you feel $#@%, :wall: you rest because there is nothing you can do. Then when your body begins the fight back, it's really all about the mind and you know you are on the up again and you can get to the next session. I have to say that session 3 was better than session 2. I made a concious decision in my mind to put session 2 behind me and not automatically expect that I would have a bad time again with session 3 and I am convinced that all the support I am receiving helps too

The more I am going through the process of treatment, the more I am beginning to understand what long distance runners must go through bodily and mentally and then when they both fail, God takes over and lifts you spiritually. :cloud9:

I had two friends over today for tea and crème tart and we chatted away.........I would not have opened the door last week. :jester:

I did some gardening and washing and felt much better. I am finding though that walking to the top of our garden get's me out of breath. We are on an acre of land which from top to bottom has a 10 metre slope so ordinarily it's no problem walking up and down but at the moment i am like an old toppie (spl) all out of breath. :daisy:

So, I think once the treatment is over in October I am going to need advice on how to build up my strength again!!

I have made the decision to go home for Christmas as I need to see my family and they need to see me. Hopefully I will have some hair by then but if not, then it's lots of fluffy hats for me :innocent:

Grant, I hope your party went well and you had that glass of champagne for me!

Take care everyone.......
