Sue Johnson to share cancer experience
Afternoon from a very cold Monteseel!

Yes…snow on the Berg and in the midlands and a biting bitter wind along the cliffs out here.

Thank you for all your support on-line and in prayer. This last chemo treatment really hit me harder than all the others. But I am sure that was to be expected since my poor body has taken a severe wacking with poisons.

Well now I am on those tablets which will hopefully keep the cancer at bay. I have been given Tomoxifen. This is hormone therapy which I will need to take for the next 5 years. One tablet at night before bed and the good thing is that the medical aid have agreed to pay for the treatment. I went for the usual blood test yesterday and as usual….no blood in the veins so they ended up using the arm they are not supposed to use but at least they were able to get their sample easily.

My thoughts now turn to recovery and to getting my strength back, oh ……and of course my hair!

I now feel ready to go and be fitted for my prosthesis. During chemo treatment I needed to concentrate on getting through each session. Now I can focus on myself in the sense of needing to feel like a women again and not a medical case. I had to laugh though…… I was sitting under a tree on Friday out in one of our projects and I was talking to my boss about the next step and we got chatting about getting the new boob and I said to him “ Can you imagine what it will be like having one 21 year old pert boob and one 54 year old spaniels ear……………..? Well, he nearly fell off the block he was sitting on he laughed so hard. Then there was a long discussion about the care of ones new ‘attachment’. He would not believe me when I said the best way to keep the new boobs shape, is to hang it up in a small hammock over night………honest! Strange things you get to talk about whilst sitting under trees hey? :engel:

On a serious note though once I am fitted it means I can wear my clothes properly again and not be swathed in baggy T-shirts or sweaters.

I want to get back on my treadmill and bicycle again but I am going to take things slowly as I have been told that it can take up to a year for your body to rid itself of the toxins. I am looking forward to buying some new clothes and one day having my hair done at the hairdressers……strange the things we take for granted but when you cannot do them, you realise how much an illness can affect your normal life. Confusedtoked:

Cheffie, sorry I missed you again. I was on site with volunteers from TSB Lloyds UK and my phone was in the car.

My father-in-law is coming out to SA in October to stay with us for 6 weeks. Losing mum after 60 years of marriage was very hard for him and so we asked him to come and have a holiday and rest. He had been caring for mum for the past 18 months and I don’t think he realised how much it had taken out of him. Gemma also arrives in November and so my home will be full and I am so looking forward to having family around me once more.......
