Durban CITYSURFRUN champions Durban based Charities

Reach For A Dream

When entering the 2nd annual FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN (taking place on Sunday, 14 October 2018) Durbanites can make a change by supporting three Durban based charities: The Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD), TREE and/or the Durban & Coast SPCA.

“We are proud to be able to support three pivotal Durban based charities,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports. “RFAD believes in the power of dreams, encouraging children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses. The Durban & Coast SPCA fulfils a valuable role in the lives of thousands of Durban’s animals, while by supporting TREE we are able to change the lives of many of Durban’s children. In 2017 runners showed their support by donating a combined total of R18 010 to these three charities: RFAD / R7525, Durban & Coast SPCA / R6640 and TREE / R3845. The donations will go a long way in ensuring the continuation of the selfless work of each charity. We look forward to building on this support in 2018.”

Established in 1988, RFAD looks to inspire hope and help children to believe in the power of dreams.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN in 2018,” says Kerry Donkin, RFAD KZN Manager. “We had a lot of fun last year and were able to raise awareness and valuable funds to help inspire hope through the power of dreams. We would like to thank the event and the people of Durban who supported and donated towards our charity. This year we aim to continue creating awareness and raise more funds to reach more children. We will be at race pack collection where we look forward to meeting all the 2018 entrants. Our team will also be on the start line. We are encouraging our volunteers, sponsors, families and friends to do the same. We invite all Durbanites to be a part of the magic and become a dream maker.”

The Durban & Coast SPCA rescues abused and neglected domestic, farm and wild animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership, providing a shelter for strays, and a veterinary service for pets of underprivileged people.

According to Tanya Fleischer, Durban & Coast SPCA Marketing Manager, the inaugural FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN was a fantastic experience. “We are excited and honoured to once again be part of this event,” says Fleischer. “The donation received was put towards general running costs of the SPCA which includes the feeding of the animals in our kennels and cattery, making sure every animal has a blanket and bed, care of these animals and maintenance of the kennels and cattery. This year we will be back at race pack collection where we will have a very exciting spin and win wheel. On event day ten members of Team SPCA will complete the 10km run as an additional fund raising initiative. We would like to invite runners to become committed volunteers and help us raise much needed funds.”

Founded in 1984, TREE (Training and Resources in Early Education) is a non-profit organisation that specialises in Early Childhood Development, Resource and Training.

“It gives us great pleasure to be involved with the 2018 FNB Durban 10K CITRYSURFRUN,” says Ruby Motaung, TREE Director. “Being part of the inaugural event was really special. We were given the opportunity to engage with families. The donation received will be used towards the provision of training and resources in ensuring that young children are in a safe, caring and conducive environment for their growth and development. This year we look forward to expanding awareness around Early Childhood Development, while encouraging support from the Durban community. Physical activity is an important part of a young child’s growth and development and we hope that the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN will encourage participation by families.”
