“The FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN has proudly supported Die Burger Kersfonds since the event’s inception in 2015 and The Cape Of Good Hope SPCA since 2016,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “These two charities lie close to our hearts and we are thankful to all runners that showed their support in 2017. This support enabled a welcomed donation of R 26 479 to Die Burger Kersfonds and an impressive donation of R 86 076 to The Cape Of Good Hope SPCA proving once again that the sport of running does have the ability to change lives.”

Started in 1957, Die Burger Kersfonds is a non-profit organisation that aims to assist with the educational needs of less fortunate children, developing the youth’s leadership skills and giving children a home while they attend these different programmes.

According to Suzaan Potgieter, Die Burger Kersfonds Coordinator, being part of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN is a lot of fun. “The event is a great tourism opportunity for Cape Town, it is fun for those living in the province and a strong focus is placed on charity support. Die Burger and the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN have one very important thing in common: Cape Town! We understand Capetonians better than anyone else. Through our partnership we get to reach more people and promote an event that is taking place in the city that we love the most. The FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN is one of the most special projects that we partake in. It really makes a difference. We are extremely thankful for the support and look forward to a spectacular race in 2018.”

Established in 1872, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is the founding society of the SPCA movement in South Africa and is the oldest animal welfare organisation in the country. A registered non-profit organisation and Public Benefit Organisation the society relies on the support of concerned individuals and corporates to continue operating.

“As an official charity of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN we have been able to care for thousands of stray and surrendered animals,” says Tyron Noemdo, Junior Fundraiser Cape of Good Hope SPCA. “We love the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN because of the runners and the vibe. It is truly heart-warming to see that so many people support and share our mission and vision for all animals. Our plan for 2018 includes exhibiting at the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN registration. Runners who donate R200 or more will receive special SPCA arm warmers. We will also have a limited range of SPCA branded merchandise that will be for sale at our stand. We are really looking forward to event day as a number of runners (staff, family and supporters) will also complete the 12km race in SPCA colours.”
